Detection of activity responsible for induction of the Agrobacterium tumefaciens virulence genes in bacteriological agar

Article Abstract:

The induction of the virulence gene vir in Agrobacterium tumefaciens was investigated using a number of A. tumefasciens strains and different solid media. Organisms grown on acidic medium solidified with bacteriological agar and supplemented with glucose expressed the virulence gene. Organisms grown on media solidified with purified agarose did not express the gene. The active principle responsible for virulence induction was extracted and purified from bacteriological agar.

Characterization of an Agrobacterium tumefaciens D-psicose 3-epimerase that converts n-fructose to d-psicose

Article Abstract:

The noncharacterised gene previously proposed as the D-tagatose 3-epimerase gene from Agrobacterium tumefaciens was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. It was revealed that the catalytic efficiency of the expressed enzyme for D-psicose was 586-fold higher than for D-tagatose indicating that the enzyme was not D-tagatose 3-epimerase but D-psicose 3-epimerase and therefore a new enzyme.

Agrobacterium tumefaciens fur has important physiological roles in iron and manganese homeostasis, the oxidative stress response, and full virulence

Article Abstract:

The role of fur mutant (ferric uptake regulator) in maintaining physiological balance in Agrobacterium tumefaciens was investigated. The mutant did not show changes in the levels of siderophore biosynthesis and the expression of iron transport genes, but was more sensitive to manganese, had a reduced ability to cause tumors and a role in determining oxidative resistance levels.
