Detection of Hepatitis E virus in raw and treated wastewater with the polymerase chain reaction

Article Abstract:

The applicability of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect Hepatitis E virus (HEV) in sewage treatment plants and establish the prevalence of hepatitis viral diseases in a population is studied. An epidemic of HEV infections due to a lack of adequate public sanitations has increased in many developing countries. Specific DNA amplification by PCR in combination with slot-blot hybridization was used to indicate that HEV was present in the three sewage samples of the inlets and outlets.

PCR-based approach for detection of novel Bacillus thuringiensis cry genes

Article Abstract:

The cry genes of Bacillus thuringiensis can be screened and isolated using the exclusive polymerase chain reaction (E-PCR) method. It can also be used to discover new cry genes by using the same initial set of primers. E-PCR is a two-step technique that can be used to detect unknown genetic sequences. The first step uses three primers to identify previously known cryI genes. The second step uses the same three primers to identify unknown cryI genes by excluding the known sequences.

A real-time PCR assay for the detection of Campylobacter jejuni in foods after enrichment culture

Article Abstract:

Research describes the development of a real-time polymerase chain reaction assay based on 5' nuclease system to detect specific C sequence in Campylobacter jejuni. The assay shows linearity of quantification of food contamination over six orders of magnitude, detecting up to 12 genome equivalents. The new assay takes 3 h and applicable to a diverse range of Campylobacter species and other related and unrelated genera.
