Article Abstract:
The distribution of rotaviruses were detected and quantified in domestic sewage and sewage-polluted creeks in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Eight litersamples were absorbed and eluted from positively charged microporous filters and ultracentrifugated of their filter eluates. Rotavirus were detected and enumerated by indirect immunofluorescence and direct immunoperoxidase methods. The seasonal variation of the virus corresponded to the seasonal variation of diarrhea in the city.

Article Abstract:
Electropositive membrane filtration can eliminate many organic and inorganic compounds in environmental samples that can interfere with PCR analysis. Researchers used both fluorpentane treatment and a ZP60S electropositive filter membrane to isolate enteric viruses from sewage and sewage-polluted water.

Article Abstract:
Researchers describe a TaqMan PCR probe that can distinguish all strains of Vibrio cholerae and exclude all other Vibrio species in oysters and seawater. The probe is based on the nonclassical hemolysin hlyA sequence and can detect viable but nonculturable strains.
