Design and performance of a 16S rRNA-targeted oligonucleotide probe for detection of members of the genus Bdellovibrio by fluorescence in situ hybridization

Article Abstract:

A 16S rRNA-targeted, Cy3-labeled oligonucleotide probe is designed for detecting the members of the genus Bdellovibrio by fluorescence in situ hybridization. Specific hybridization conditions are established, but enrichment is required for the detection of bdellovibrios in environmental samples, thereby confirming that Bdellovibrio spp. are not there in large numbers in the environment.

Metabolism of bismuth subsalicylate and intracellular accumulation of bismuth by Fusarium sp. strain BI

Article Abstract:

Enrichment cultures were conducted using bismuth subsalicylate as the sole source of carbon and activated sludge as the inoculum. A pure culture was obtained and identified as a Fusarium sp. based on spore morphology and partial sequences of 18S rRNA, translation elongation factor 1-alpha, and beta-tubulin genes.

Genomic and biochemical studies demonstrating the absence of an alkane-producing phenotype in Vibrio furnissi M1

Article Abstract:

The alkane-producing phenotype of Vibrio furnissii M1 was analyzed by using genomic analysis and biochemical studies. The results have shown that alkane-producing genes were not identified and alkane biosynthesis was not demonstrated in vivo or in vitro.
