Degradation pathway and generation of monohydoxamic acids from trihydroxamate siderophore deferrioxamine B

Article Abstract:

Siderophores are virulence factors for plants as well as animal pathogens and the sequestration of iron by the host is an immune mechanism that could limit the course of pathogenic infections. The metabolism of trihydroxamic acid siderophore deferrioxamine B by M. loti goes by a specific actual degradation and represents the reversal by which hydroxamate siderophores are thought to be synthesized.

Comparison of proteolytic activities produced by entomopathogenic photorhabdus bacteria: strain- and -phase-dependent heterogeneity in composition and activity of four enzymes

Article Abstract:

Twenty strains of nematode-symbiotic and insect-pathogenic Photorhabdus bacteria are examined for the production of proteolytic enzymes with the help of a combination of several methods such as gelatin liquefaction. The N-terminal sequences of three of the proteases are determined and a comparison with sequences in database allowed identification of these proteases as HEXXH metallopeptidases.

Diazotrophic Burkholderia species associated with field-grown maize and sugarcane

Article Abstract:

The identification, isolation and comparison of the diazotrophic species of the genus Burkholderia associated with different varieties of sugarcane and maize growing in regions of Mexico and Brazil is presented. The analysis has confirmed the riches of the genus Burkholderia in nitrogen-fixing plant-associated species as well as its broad environmental and geographic distribution.
