Degradation and mineralization of atrazine by a soil bacterial isolate

Article Abstract:

Experimental studies help isolate a bacteria culture from pesticide-contaminated agricultural soil, which exhibits capacity to degrade atrazine under aerobic conditions. Chloride release during atrazine degradation is stoichiometric, while ammonium formation is below stoichiometric level. Absence of free ammonium, with glucose and atrazine as the sole N source, indicates the assimilation of ammonium into biomass. The pure bacterial isolate exhibits ability to cleave the s-triazine ring of atrazine and for deamination, dealkylation and dechlorination.

Secondary metabolites resulting from degradation of PR toxin by Penicillium roqueforti

Article Abstract:

The characterization of two secondary metabolites of the fungus PR toxin is discussed. After purification and crystallization, these compounds were subjected to elemental analysis, mass, nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopies. It was found that PR-imine and PR-amide in the culture medium of Penicillium roqueforti results from the degradation of PR toxin.

An experiment is conducted in two-compartment devices to show the selection of bacterial communities by root producing compounds known as exudates. The methods and results are discussed.
