Dancing around the divisome: Asymmetric chromosome segregation in Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

A new scheme for the relationship between DNA replication-segregation, chromosome organization, and cell division is developed by simultaneously tracking pairs of specific genetic regions and divisome proteins in live Escherichia coli. A remarkable asymmetric pattern of segregation of different loci in the replication termination region suggests that individual replichores segregate to distinct nucleoid positions, consistent with an asymmetric segregation of leading and lagging strand templates after replication.

Homologous recombination and nonhomologous end-joining repair pathways regulate fragile site stability

Article Abstract:

Common fragile sites are specific chromosomal loci that form gaps on metaphase chromosomes exposed to replication stress that shows DNA replication. Replication stress leads to formation of RAD51 and phosphorylated DNA-Pkcs, key components of the homologous recombination (HR) and nonhomologous end-joining (NHEJ), double-strand break (DSR) repair pathways and studies shows that HR and NHEJ repair pathways can be coupled to repair DSK and to maintain site stability.

The two Escherichia coli chromosome arms locate to separate cell halves

Article Abstract:

DNA replication, which divides the circular Escherichia coli chromosome into equal arms, is described. Sequential replication-segregation regenerates the structure by sequentially layering newly replicated replichore DNA to specific inner and outer edges of the developing sister nucleoids.
