DNA structures at chromosomal translocation sites

Article Abstract:

The work on non-B DNA conformations, as the possible basis for certain consistent sites of chromosomal translocation was assessed and summarized. It indicates that some of the most common fragile sites in human neoplasm assume non-B DNA structures and because of the single strandedness within these non-B structures, they are vulnerable to structure specific nucleases.

The evolution of meiosis: Recruitment and modification of somatic DNA-repair proteins

Article Abstract:

Several examples of proteins exhibiting functional differentiation between somatic DNA repair and meiotic homologous recombination are presented. Somatic repair functions and meiotic recombination diverged during evolution resulting in adaptations specific to sexual reproduction.

Human severe combined immune deficiency (SCID) is the most serious inherited immunological deficit. Various defects in the predominant pathway for double-strand break repair called nonhomologous DNA end joining are revealed.
