Genetic and biochemical approach for characterization of resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis toxin Cry1Ac in a field population of the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella
Article Abstract:
Researchers describe populations of the diamondback moth Plutella xylostella that have become resistant to the insecticidal crystal (Cry) proteins of Bacillus thuringiensis. The Cry proteins are believed to be the safest pesticides but some insects are developing resistance to them.

Cyt1Aa from Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis is toxic to the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella, and synergizes the activity of Cry1Ac towards a resistant strain
Article Abstract:
The Cyt1Aa toxin from Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis is active against the diamondback moth and is also active against moths that are resistant to the Cry1Ac toxin. Although some insects are becoming resistant to other strains of Bacillus thuringiensis, resistance to israelensis has not been reported.

Genetic and biochemical characterization of field-evolved resistance to bacillus thuringiensis toxin Cry1Ac in the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to find whether the genetics, mechanisms and stability of resistance to Cry1Ac differed between a field-selected strain and laboratory-selected or -re-selected strains. The field-evolved resistance to various Bacillus thuringiensis toxins is evaluated and the mode of inheritance of resistance and numbered genes involved are determined.
