Culture change and stress in Western Samoan youth: methodological issues in the cross-cultural study of stress and immune function
Article Abstract:
Children aged 4 to 20 in Western Samoa show elevated levels of Epstein-Barr virus antibodies in areas closer to Western influence. This indication of lowered cell-mediated immune function may be due to higher psychosocial stress.

Biological and behavioral factors influence group differences in prolactin levels among breastfeeding Nepali women
Article Abstract:
Biological/behavioral factors play a role in group differences in prolactin levels among breastfeeding women in Nepal. Two natural fertility groups were studied and fertility differences were identified. In one group longer intervals between births and higher energy expenditure (higher workloads) exist, although nursing practices were similar.

Evolutionary process and the ecology of human immune function
Article Abstract:
Evolutionary principles are discussed in relation to the human immune function, providing insight into autoimmunity, thymic function, lymphocyte development, infectious disease risk and lactation. Topics include the phylogeny of immunity, clonal selection and somatic evolution, self-reactivity, the development of immune function, and passive immunity.
