Cucumber mosaic virus-encoded 2b suppressor inhibits Arabidopsis Argonaute1 cleavage activity to counter plant defense

Article Abstract:

An analysis shows that the Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV)-encoded 2b protein interferes with miRNA pathways, obtaining developmental anomalies partially phenocopying ago1 mutant alleles. The results have concluded that 2b blocks Argonaute1 (AGO1) cleavage activity to inhibit miRNA pathways, attenuate RNA silencing, and counter host defense, which have provided insights on the molecular arms race between host antiviral RNA silencing and virus counterdefense.

The action of ARGONAUTE1 in the miRNA pathway and its regulation by the miRNA pathway are crucial for plant development

Article Abstract:

Arabidopsis ago1 mutants exhibit a range of developmental defects and have also increased accumulation of mRNAs targeted by microRNAs(miRNAs). Results reveal that decreasing the complementarity of ARGONAUTE1 (AGO1) mRNA with miR168 increases the level of AGO1 mRNA and has drastic consequences on plant development and reproduction.

A diverse and evolutionarily fluid set of microRNAs in Arabidopsis thaliana

Article Abstract:

High-throughput pyrosequencing is used to obtain Arabidopsis thaliana small RNAs in order to understand the diversity of small silencing RNAs expressed in plants. The results have disclosed the existence of a layer of microRNA (miRNA)-based control that is evolutionarily much more fluid by using newly emergent and diverse miRNAs.
