Crystal structures of T. brucei MRP1/MRP2 guide-RNA binding complex reveal RNA matchmaking mechanism

Article Abstract:

The structures of Trypanosoma brucei apoMRP1/MRP2 complex and an MRP1/MRP2-gRNA complex are determined to understand the mechanism by which this complex performs RNA matchmaking. The gRNA molecule binds to the highly basic [beta] sheet surface of the MRP complex via non-specific, electrostatic contacts while the gRNA stem/loop II base is anchored to the basic surface, stem/loop I which is unfolded and exposed to solvent.

Structural basis of core promoter recognition in a primitive eukaryote

Article Abstract:

The crystal structures of the apo-initiator binding domain and initiator binding domain-initiator complexes and the c-terminal domain of the initiator binding protein 39 show winged-helix motif and a scaffold similar to ETS-family proteins for initiator binding domains. Data point out that binding of initiator binding protein 39 to the initiator recruits RNA polymerase II and initiates transcription.

Structural basis for allosteric control of the transcription regulator CcpA by the phosphoprotein HPr-Ser46-P

Article Abstract:

A study reported the structures of the Bacillus megaterium apoCcpA and a CcpA-(HPr-Ser46-P)-DNA complex. These structures reveal that HPr-Ser46-P mediates a novel two-component allosteric DNA binding activation mechanism.
