Crystal structure of human cyclophilin A bound to the amino-terminal domain of HIV-1 capsid

Article Abstract:

The X-ray crystal structure of human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) cyclophilin A (CypA) was analyzed to determine the role of the human peptidyl prolyl isomerase in viral replication. The CypA which is bound to the N-terminal domain of HIV-1 capsid protein (CA) exhibited sequence-specific protein interactions and CA-CA interactions. Furthermore, the CA151/CypA complex forms an extended conformation in which the long loop of CA151 helices is bound to the CypA active site.

The protein network of HIV budding

Article Abstract:

Research demonstrates that 22 class E proteins along with a protein network consisting of 43 other protein-protein complexes mediate human multivesicular bodies biogenesis as well as participate in the release of HIV and other viruses by budding. Data indicate that AIP1 plays a key role in this viral budding process.

Complement-independent, peroxide-induced antibody lysis of platelets in HIV-1-related immune thrombocytopenia

Article Abstract:

Research demonstrates a new mechanism for immunologic platelet lysis by an antibody-induced generation of hydrogen peroxide, a reactive oxygen species. Data indicate that anti-platelet immunoglobulins cause platelet fragmentation in the absence of complement.
