Cryptochromes: enabling plants and animals to determine circadian time

Article Abstract:

This review discusses the occurrence of cryptochromes across the living organisms ensemble from prokaryotic bacteria to eukaryotic systems like plants, animals, Drosophila, and mammals. The cryptochromes are flavin-containing blue light photoreceptors and mediate a wide range of functions including the entrainment of circadian rhythms.

The C termini of Arabidopsis cryptochromes mediate a constitutive light response

Article Abstract:

Results show that in Arabidopsis the signalling process is mediated by blue light sensing cryptochromes through C-terminus of the photoreceptor. Data indicate that the C-terminal domain is activated by blue light through a redox reaction catalyzed by a flavin bound to N-terminal domain of the photoreceptor.

Patterning the embryonic axis: FGF signaling and how vertebrate embryos measure time

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that FGF signaling regulates cell maturation along the caudally extending axis of the neural tube and the somitic mesoderm. Data suggest that cells that are exposed for extended periods of time to caudalizing signals, the same time as FGF signaling, will acquire more caudal status.
