Article Abstract:
Researchers introduced a fusion construct encoding the structural element of Alcohol dehydrogenase (Adh) under the control of the white regulatory sequences into various locations of the Drosophila melanogaster genome. This was undertaken in an Adh null mutant background. It was found that the tissue distribution of the Adh and white genes is totally distinct from each other. The white product is not distributed in the fat body or gut, while Adh is usually clearly expressed in the fat body and the gut. There seems to be a mechanism in which homologous recognition of the transgenes initiates silencing.

Article Abstract:
The expression of the antifungal and antibacteral peptide genes is investigated in adult Drosophila mutants. Mutations involve the disruption of the dorsoventral embryonic patterning. Results demonstrate the importance of the embryonic regulatory pathway, mapped between the Toll receptor ligand spatzle and cact, in the antifungal peptide gene. Slight variations are observed in the expression. In the case of antibacterial genes, expression is governed by the immune deficiency gene although the dorsoventral pathway partly influences induction of cecropin A gene.

Article Abstract:
The Drosophila D-raf gene is involved in multiple signal transduction pathways during cell proliferation, differentiation and development. A new gene downstream of D-raf was identified from screens for D-raf suppressors. Sequence analysis showed that the gene, designated Dsor1, codes for a protein kinase similar to the microtubule-associated protein kinase activator. These results indicate that the signal transduction events mediated by D-raf involve a cascade of phosphorylation reactions.
