Coordination of replication and transcription along a Drosophila chromosome

Article Abstract:

The mechanisms by which metazoan origins of DNA replication are defined, regulated, and influenced by chromosomal events are studied. A systematic approach using a Drosophila high-resolution genomic microarray is developed to determine replication timing, identify replication origins, and map protein-binding sites along a chromosome arm to gain insights into the mechanisms.

Drosophila argonaute-2 is required early in embryogenesis for the assembly of centric/centromeric heterochromatin, nuclear division, nuclear migration, and germ-cell formation

Article Abstract:

Argonaute-2 (ago-2) is required for proper nuclear migration, pole cell formation, and cellularization during the early stages of embryonic development in Drosophila. Nuclear division is asynchronous in ago-2 embryos and there are defects in chromosome condensation, nuclear kinesis, and assembly of spindle apparatus.

The Drosophila MSL complex activates the transcription of target genes

Article Abstract:

Direct target genes for the male-specific-lethal (MSL) complex are identified and transcription in absolute terms after knockdown of MSL-2 is quantified. The results unequivocally document an appropriate twofold activation of target genes by the MSl complex.
