Conversion of Sphingobium chlorophenolicum ATCC 39723 to a hexachlorobenzene degrader by metabolic engineering

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to convert the pentachlorophenol (PCP) utilizer ATCC 39723 to an HCB degrader by introducing a genetic segment (camA(super plus) camB(super plus) camC), which codes for the mutant of CYP101, into target gene pcpM through homologous recombination. The recombinant strain could degrade hexachlorobenzene at a rate of 0.67 nmol . mg (dry weight)(super -1).h(super -1), and intermediate PCP was also identified.

Desulfitobacterium hafniense is present in a high proportion within the biofilms of a high-performance pentachlorophenol-degrading, methanogenic fixed-film reactor

Article Abstract:

A pentachlorophenol (PCP)-degrading, methanogenic fixed-film reactor is developed with the use of broken granular sludge from an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor is developed. The result suggests that the presence of PCP-dehalogenating Desulfitobacterium hafniense in the biofilm was crucial for the performance of the reactor.

Genome shuffling improves degradation of the anthropogenic pesticide pentachlorophenol by Sphingobium chlorophenolicum ATCC 39723

Article Abstract:

The degradation of the anthropogenic pesticide pentachlorophenol by Sphingobium chlorophenolicum ATCC 39723 is improved by genome shuffling. The improved phenotypes may be responsible for enhanced growth rate and enhanced resistance towards toxicity of PCP and its metabolites.
