Research has been conducted on the vancomycin resistance in Enterococcus gallinarum. The investigation of the racemization selectivity of L-Ser or L-Ala by a membrane-bound serine racemase is discussed.

Conjugative transfer of tet(S) between strains of Enterococcus faecalis is associated with the exchange of large fragments of chromosomal DNA

Article Abstract:

The transfer of tetracyline resistance determinant tet(S) from Enterococcus faecalis BM4242 was investigated. It was found that the presence of the 55 kb conjugative plasmid pIP825 is necessary for the transfer of tet(s) from clinical isolate E.faecalis BM4242 to E. faecalis strains JH2-2 and OG1RF. Rare-cutting enzymes and PFGE analysis of the transferred DNA confirmed that tet(S) was mobilized from chromosome to chromosome.
