Conjugal type IV macromolecular transfer systems of Gram-negative bacteria: organismal distribution, structural constraints and evolutionary conclusions

Article Abstract:

The authors review publications on the type IV secretory pathway systems, multi-component complexes in Gram-negative bacteria translocating proteins and nucleoprotein complexes from the donor cells to the recipient cells during bacterial conjugation. The functional and structural predictions have been made and it has been demonstrated that the constituents of these systems have not undergone appreciable shuffling during the evolutionary divergence.

Prevalence of type III secretion genes in clinical and environmental isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the type III secretion system of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Results indicate that this system is present in all clinical and environmental isolates but that individual isolates and populations of isolates from distinct disease sites have different effector genotypes.

Developmental cheating and the evolutionary biology of Dictyostelium and Myxococcus

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the life styles of bacteria Dictyostelium discoideum and Myxococcus xanthus. Results indicate that these bacteria have the problem of parasitism by their own cells.
