Complexity of bacterial communities in a river-floodplain system (Danube, Austria)

Article Abstract:

Particle-associated and free-living bacterial assemblages from the Danube River and various floodplain pools with different hydrological characteristics were investigated using terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. The results indicate that the importance of the river-floodplain interactions and the influence of damming and regulation on the bacterial-community composition.

Genomic deletion marking an emerging subclone of Francisella tularensis subsp. holarctica in France and the Iberian Peninsula

Article Abstract:

Comparative genomic analysis has identified a 1.59-kb genomic deletion specific to Francisella tularensis subsp. holarctica isolates from Spain and France. Phylogenetic analysis of strains carrying this deletion has shown that the strains have a highly related set of genotypes, showing that these strains are introduced by clonal expansion in France and the Iberian Peninsula.

Use of transposon-transposase complexes to create stable insertion mutant strains of Francisella tularensis LVs

Article Abstract:

The use of transposome complexes in the chromosome of the Francisella tularensis live vaccine strain (LVS) is discussed. Transformation by electroporation of tn5-based transposon-transposase complexes provides an efficient mechanism for generating random, stable chromosomal insertion mutations in F. tularensis.
