Article Abstract:
Genetic variation in Spain in the endemic, Rosmarinus tomentosus Huber-Morath and Maire (Labiatae), a coastal shrub, has been investigated using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Variation was evaluated among zones, among populations (in zones and independent of zones), and among individuals. To study 5 populations, 8 primers were used. This gave 126 reliable bands of which 86% were polymorphic. Findings will help in formulating strategies to conserve the shrub, which is critically endangered by habitat destruction by anthropogenic activities.

Article Abstract:
A population genetic analysis of chloroplast DNA has been carried out in wild populations of Prunus avian L. in Europe. The information about homogeneity or heterogeneity of populations relative to haplotype constitution and detection of rare haplotypes in some populations will be valuable for formulation of conservation and management strategies of wild cherry.

Article Abstract:
Quantitative genetic variation and allozyme diversity have been compared within and between populations of Scabiosa canescens and S. columbaria. It appears that S. columbaria has great potential to respond to local selection pressures. This may explain why the species has more range, ecologically, than S. canescens.
