Comparison of extracellular peroxidase- and esterase-deficient mutants of Streptomyces viridosporus T7A

Article Abstract:

Mutants of Streptomyces viridosporus T7A deficient in peroxidase activity were characterized with regard to their extracellular peroxidase and esterase activities and their acid-precipitable polymeric lignin-producing abilities. The results showed that decreased peroxidase activities and altered esterase production patterns. Lignin solubilization was also decreased. The results indicated that peroxidase plays a direct role in lignin solubilization, which may also involve esterases.

The halophilic fungus Hortaea werneckii and the halotolerant fungus aureobasidium pullulans maintain low intracellular cation concentrations in hypersaline environments

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to investigate whether in halophilic Hortaea werneckii and in halotolerant Aureobasidium pullulans osmotic adjustments of sodium and potassium also occur in response to osmotic stress. Small fluctuations of cation concentrations are observed after a hypersonic shock in nonadapted Aureobasidium pullulans similar to those in salt-adapted Hortaea werneckii, which additionally confirmed better regulation of ionic homeostasis in the latter.

Purification and properties of a feruloyl esterase involved in lignocellulose degradation by Aureobasidium pullulans

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on black yeast Aureobasidium pullulans which produces feruloyl esterase while growing on birchwood xylan. The authors describe the purification of feruloyl esterase via anion-exchange, ultrafiltration, gel filtration chromatography, and hydrophobic interaction.
