Comparison of different procedures for stereotyping aquatic birnavirus

Article Abstract:

The current system of aquatic birnavirus classification that uses polyclonal antibodies in seroneutralization assays may not be as accurate as classification based on analysis of viral cDNA. When polyclonal antibody seroneutralization, polyclonal and monoclonal immunodot assay, and PCR and restriction enzyme cDNA analysis were compared in the classification of 10 aquatic birnavirus strains from salmonids and turbot, no correlation was seen among the results.
