Article Abstract:
Acetate turnover was analyzed in the methanogenic freshwater anoxic sediments of Lake Vechten, the Netherlands, the Tamar Estuary, UK, and the Grosser Jasmunder Bodden, Germany. Radiolabeling, stable isotope and inhibition methods were used. Acetate uptake was found to be linked with isotopic change of methyl hydrogen and carboxyl carbon. Radioisotope or stable isotope labeling of the acetate methyl group was found to be useful for turnover rate estimation, although both methods have disadvantages.

Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the effect of acetate on molecular and physiological aspects of Clostridium beijerinckii NCIMB 8052 solvent production and strain degeneration. Another objective was to study the role of acetoacetyl-coenzyme A:acyl-CoA transferase in both solvent production and acid reassimilation. Results indicate that the addition of acetate to MP2 medium may induce the expression of the sol operon.

Article Abstract:
Researchers have discovered 19 proteins that are produced by Acetobacter aceti during high acetate conditions. Some of the proteins have N-terminal sequences similar to membrane proteins, indicating the adaptation to high acetate levels in this bacterium involves a membrane-associated process.
