Comparing the dehalogenase gene pool in cultivated alpha-halocarboxylic acid-degrading bacteria with the environmental metagene pool

Article Abstract:

The authors describe the study on dehalogenase gene pool in bacteria isolated on dichloropropionic acid. They have investigated the relationship between this gene pool and environmetal metagene pool from which bacteria have been isolated via the use of culture-independent and culture-dependent approaches, and the results demonstrate the existence of a large bias introduced by culturing both in isolated bacteria and in the degradative genes from these bacteria.

Homologous npdGI genes in 2,4-dinitrophenol- and 4-nitrophenol-degrading Rhodococcus spp

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on Rhodococcus erythropolis HL PM-1 which grows on toxic polyaromatics sich as 2,4-dinitrophenol as a nitrogen source. The authors suggest that NADPH-dependent F (sub)420 reductases, encoded by npdG, form a new group within F (sub)420 -dependent NADPH reductases.

Transposon-like organization of the plasmid-borne organophosphate degradation (opd) gene cluster found in Flavobacterium sp

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on bacterial strains which use organophosphate pesticides as a carbon source. The authors report that the strains of these bacteria isolated from different geographical regions have a gene linked to opd plasmids which is involved in p-nitrophenol degradation.
