Comparative transcriptome analysis of Methylibium petroleiphilum PM1 exposed to the fuel oxygenates methyl tert-butyl ether and ethanol

Article Abstract:

High-density whole-genome cDNA microarrays are used for examining substrate-dependent gene expression of Methylibium petroleiphilum PM1, one of the aerobic methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE)-degrading bacteria. The analysis has predicted several unknown enzymes of the upper MTBE degradation pathway in Methylibium petroleiphilum PM1 and the regulation of metabolic processes that might occur in response to pollutant mixtures and perturbations in the environment.

Sau-PCR, a novel amplification technique for genetic fingerprinting of microorganisms

Article Abstract:

The proposed method that is based on the digestion of genomic DNA with restriction endonuclease Sau3AI and subsequent amplification with primer whose core sequence is based on the Sau3AI recognition site was studied. The method was tested on strains of lactic acid bacteria but could be proposed for virtually any culturable organism from which DNA can be extracted.

Evaluating the effects of chlortetracycline on the proliferation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in a simulated river water ecosystem

Article Abstract:

The various effects of chlortetracycline (CTC) on the antibiotic resistance of aerobic bacterial populations in a simulated river water ecosystem are analyzed. The results show that chemostat with high-CTC level show a greater diversity of tet resistance genes.
