Specific identification and targeted characterization of Bifidobacterium lactis from different environmental isolates by a combined multiplex-PCR approach

Article Abstract:

Researchers have developed strain- and species-specific PCR primers to detect Bifidobacterium lactis in yogurt, infant formulas, and infant feces. This bacterium is a probiotic that is used in the food industry and an accurate test is necessary for quality control purposes and public health monitoring.

Comparative sequence analysis of the tuf and recA genes and restriction fragment length polymorphism of the internal transcribed spacer region sequences supply additional tools for discriminating Bifidobacterium lactis from Bifidobacterium animalis

Article Abstract:

Comparison of tuf and recA sequences as well as restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences of B. lactis and B. animalis strains provide additional and detailed practical means to discriminate the closely related taxa. The results suggest that tuf and recA gene sequencing and RFLP analysis of the ITS sequences have specific advantages over the molecule tools for tracing B. lactis-B. animalis strains.

Bifidobacterium lactis DSM 10140: Identification of the atp (atpBEFHAGDC) operon and analysis of its genetic structure, characteristics, and phylogeny

Article Abstract:

Specific sequence signatures for the genus bifidobacterioum and for the closely related taxa bifidobacterium lactis and bifidobacterium animals and lactobacillus gasseri and lactobacillis johnsonii, which could provide an alternative to current methods for identification of lactic acid bacterial species are investigated. The findings suggest that the ATPase complex of B.lactics DSM 10140 is regulated at the level of transcription and not at the enzyme assembly step.
