Article Abstract:
The comparative mapping of genes improves the comprehensiveness of most genetic maps and extends our knowledge of evolutionary history. A new study maps loci from human chromosome 12 in cattle to compare the gene order. It is shown that six cattle loci contain polymorphisms that have previously been mapped in humans. Four loci, LALBA, SYT1, SLC2A3 and TP11, mapped to chromosome 5 in cattle and one, PLA2G1B, mapped to cattle chromosome 17. The study reveals cattle have a lower genetic variation than humans but reveals a potential for the production of millions of single-nucleotide polymorphisms in cattle.

Article Abstract:
A study used the polymorphisms from 9 microsatellites to assess genetic diversity and relationships in 4 Creole cattle breeds from Argentina and Bolivia, 4 European taurine breeds and 2 American zebu populations. Results showed that the Creole cattle populations displayed a relatively high level of genetic variation as estimated by allelic diversity and heterozygosity, whereas the British breeds displayed reduced levels of genetic diversity.

Article Abstract:
The genetic characterization of 120 animals of three native Italian cattle breeds, Piedmontese, Maremmana and Podolica at 21 microsatellite loci located on 13 chromosomes is studied. Findings reveal that the chosen microsatellites proved to be a good tool for describing the correct reality of the analyzed populations.
