Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to develop a comparative linkage map for the mosquito based on restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP). cDNA clones from Aedes aegypti were utilized as probes to Southern blots of Cx. pipiens genomic DNA. Pupae from individual colonies were separated by sex before adult emergence for crossing studies. Results indicated that cDNA clones resulting from Ae. aegypti can be utilized for the rapid construction of an RFLP map for Cx. pipies.

Article Abstract:
Investigation of the susceptibility of the mosquito Aedes aegypti to the malarial parasite Plasmodium gallinaceum reveals that there are two putative quantitative trait loci (QTL) which affect susceptibility. The parasitic susceptibility is investigated as a quantitative trait with the application of restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). The investigation also reveals that the RFLP is involved in the oocyte development of the mosquito midgut.

Article Abstract:
The genome structure and genetic variability of Aedes aegypti within and between substrains selected for different levels of refractoriness to the malaria parasite, Plasmodium gallinaceum, was studied using restriction fragment polymorphism. Several individuals in the Moyo-In-Dry (MOYO) strain and MOYO-IS substrain was observed to exhibit chromosomal deletion on chromosome 3.
