Article Abstract:
Student,s t test of data from membrane filter enumeration of Escherichia (E.) coli fecal coliforms by using m-FC and m-TEC media does not show any significant difference between the two media. Both of the media were tested with 181 water samples from sewage, rivers, lakes, and wells. A scatter plot of the data demonstrates a strong positive linear correlation between the two enumeration methods. Either of these two media can be used to determine E. coli in nontreated water.

Article Abstract:
Microbiological research shows that the new membrane filtration medium m-ColiBlue24 broth is better than mTEC medium at recovering Escherichia coli. The recovery success of m-ColiBlue24 is evaluated using three protocol modifications: no correction, AP120E and ancillary oxidase. Its relative accuracy is assessed using coliforms in 25 water samples from seven US sites.

Article Abstract:
Quantitative competitive PCR can be used to measure Escherichia coli O157:H7 in food. This bacterium can cause severe food poisoning. Regular PCR cannot assess the number of bacterial cells because it amplifies genes exponentially.
