Article Abstract:
I-CeuI and SfiI maps physical of four Bacillus subtilis (natto) strains, were constructed by using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis to elucidate the genome structure. In addition to the similarities in genome size and organization, differences in genome-specific characteristics were identified, which provided a method for discriminating variants of natto starter strains. Studies indicate that linking-clone based physical mapping is a powerful and less expensive method for B. subtilis (natto) strains.

Article Abstract:
The role of nrdEF genes in the anaerobic growth of B. subtilis is analyzed and the regulation of nrdEF transcription studied. The temperature-sensitive nrdE mutant failed to grow under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, showing that this oxygen-dependent class I RNA has an important role under both growth conditions.

Article Abstract:
Homologous recombination is used to construct an ethanologenic Bacillus subtilis strain. This is the highest ethanol titer and yield reported with a B. subtilis strain.
