Common set of genes regulates low-density lipoprotein size and obesity-related factors in Alaskan Eskimos: Results from the GOCADAN study

Article Abstract:

The genetic and environmental correlations of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) subfractions with obesity-related factors in Alaskan Eskimos are examined to analyze the increasing incidence of cardiovascular disease in the traditionally low-risk population. Results obtained using data from participants of the Genetics of Coronary Artery Disease in Alaska Natives Study show that a common set of genes influence LDL size and obesity-related factors in Alaskan Eskimos.

Genotype x adiposity interaction linkage analyses reveal a locus on chromosome 1 for lipoprotein-associated phospholipase [A.sub.2], a marker of inflammation and oxidative stress

Article Abstract:

The samples from the San Antonlo Family Heart Study are used to test the hypothesis that the contribution of genes to variation in a biomarker of low-grade inflammation and oxidative stress are influenced by the degree of adiposity. Results reveal the possibility of a significant response to the adiposity environment in lipo-protein-associated phospholipase (Lp-[PLA.sub.2]), which is an important biomarker of inflammation and oxidative stress.

A Chromosome 11q quantitative-trait locus influences change of blood-pressure measurements over time in Mexican Americans of the San Antonio Family Heart Study

Article Abstract:

A study on the rates of change in systolic, diastolic and mean arterial blood pressure (BP) by using longitudinal data collected about the Mexican Americans of the San Antonio Family Heart Study was conducted. Result show that to calculate longitudinal BP data the rate of change in BP over time provides more information than the single time meaurements.
