Cometabolisn of a nongrowth substrate: L-Serine utilization by corynebacterium glutamicum

Article Abstract:

The sdaA gene is identified in the genome of C. glutamicum and overexpression of sdaA resulted in functional L-serine dehydratase activity and therefore conversion of L-serine to pyruvate. Use of 13C-labeled L-serine and analysis of cellularly derived metabolites by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy reveal that the carbon skeleton of L-serine is mainly converted to pyruvate-derived metabolites such as L-alanine.

Strains of Corynebacterium glutamicum with different lysine productivities may have different lysine excretion systems

Article Abstract:

Differences in the kinetic proprties of the lysine transport systems of three different Corynebactrium glutamicum strains are discussed. Two strains were bred from classical mutagenesis and have a feedback-resistant aspartate kinase while the other strain was constructed by introducing the kinase gene into the genome of the wild type. It was found that all three genes undergo carrier-mediated lysine secretions.

Metabolic engineering of Corynebacterium glutamicum for L-serine production

Article Abstract:

The construction of an L-serine-producing strain from Corynebacterium glutamicum by metabolic engineering is described. Metabolic engineering of L-serine production from glucose can be achieved only by addressing the apparent key position of this amino acid in the central metabolism.
