Coilin forms the bridge between Cajal bodies and SMN, the spinal muscular atrophy protein

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disorder caused by the human survival of motor neuron 1 gene mutations. Results indicate that this gene interacts with the coilin, a Cajal body signature protein, and that these interactions mediate recruitment of the survival of motor neuron 1 gene complex to Cajal bodies.

Ectopic expression of a Chlamydomonas mt+-specific homeodomain protein in mt-gametes initiates zygote development without gamete fusion

Article Abstract:

Research has bee conducted on the molecular mechanisms activating zygote gene expression after fertilization. The hypothesis that ectopic expression of the homeodomain protein GSP1 in the mating type minus gametes induces zygote-specific gene transcription has been tested and the results are reported.

The Polycomb-group protein MEDEA regulates seed development by controlling expression of the MADS-box gene PHERES1

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on Polycomb-group protein MEDEA which regulates Arabidopsis seed development via embryo and endosperm proliferation. Results demonstrate that seed abortion in the medea mutant is caused by deregulated expression of the type I MADS-box gene PHE1.
