Molecular genetics of prostate cancer

Article Abstract:

Molecular genetics of prostate cancer are discussed in this review article. Recent progress toward understanding parameters of normal vs abnormal prostatic development and of finding a molecular pathway for prostate cancer progress is covered focusing on key regulatory molecules implicated by analysis of patterns of allelic loss in human prostate cancer and/or by reverse genetic approaches in mice. Topics include correlation with aging, environmental factors, familial inheritance, and heterogeneity and multifocality.

naked cuticle targets dishevelled to antagonize Wnt signal transduction

Article Abstract:

The ways in which Nkd limits Wg signaling by using a combination of genetic and biochemical approaches are discussed. Study results indicate that Nkd likely can antagonize Wg signaling cell-autonomously through a direct interaction with Dsh. In Drosophila embryos the protein Naked cuticle limits effects of the Wnt signal Wingless in early segmentation.

Closely related proteins MBD2 and MBD3 play distinctive but interacting roles in mouse development

Article Abstract:

It has been shown, using gene targeting, that two closely related proteins, MBD2 and MBD3, are not functionally redundant in mice. MBD3, based on genetic and biochemical data, seems to be a key component of the Mi-2/NuRD corepressor complex. MBD2 may be one of a number of factors that can recruit the complex to DNA. Maternal behavior is defective and a component of MeCP1 is missing in Mdb2(-/-) mice.
