Prochlorococcus marinus strain PCC 9511, a picoplanktonic cyanobacterium, synthesizes the smallest urease

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on picoplanktonic oceanic Prochlorococcus marinus sp. strain PCC 9511. The urease from this strain has been purified via heat treatment and liquid chromatography methods, and the results are reported.

Closely related Prochlorococcus genotypes show remarkably different depth distsributions in two oceanic regions as revealed by in situ hybridization using 16S rRNA-targeted oligonucleotides

Article Abstract:

Closely related Prochlorococcus genotypes have been shown to have remarkably different depth distsributions in the Red Sea and the North Atlantic. An in situ hybridization method was used for identification of marine cyanobacteria using horseradish-peroxidase-labelled 16S rRNA targeted oligonucleotide probes in combination with tyramid signal amplification (TSA).

Clade-specific 16S ribosomal DNA oligonucleotides reveal the predominance of a single marine Synechococcus clade throughout a stratified water column in the Red Sea

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on marine Synechococcus genus. The authors describe their study of the phylogenetic relationships among the members of this genus carried out via the sequencing of the 16S ribosomal DNA from the Red Sea isolates, and they report that one Synechococcus clade predominates over the others throughout the water column.
