Cloning the soil metagenome: a strategy for accessing the genetic and functional diversity of uncultured microorganisms

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on microbial diversity in nature. The libraries of genomic DNA isolated from soil have been constructed to investigate the extent of microbial diversity.

A census of rRNA genes and linked genomic sequences within a soil metagenomic library

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on microbial genomes from the library of soil metagenomic DNA. The diversity of these genomes has been investigated, and the genomic sequence isolated from uncultured bacteria has been described.

Long-chain N-acyltyroine synthases from environmental DNA

Article Abstract:

Nine additional long-chain N-acyltyrosine-producing clones were characterized to explore the genetic diversity underlying the production of the apparently common natural products. The heterologous expression of eDNA in easily cultured hosts provided access to many of the previously inaccessible natural products.
