Cloning, expression, and characterization of aminopeptidase P from the hyperthermophilic archaeon Thermococcus sp. strain NA1

Article Abstract:

Genomic analysis of a hyperthermophilic archaeon, Thermococcus sp. strain NA1, revealed the presence of aminopeptidase P (APP) gene similar to those for other APPs which was cloned, expressed in Escherichia coli and recombinant enzyme was purified to examine its characteristics. The recombinant enzyme hydrolyzed the amino-terminal Xaa-Pro bond of Lys[N(super e)-Abz]-Pro-Pro-pNA and the dipeptide Met-Pro [K(sub m),0.96 mM], revealing its functional identity.

Heavy metal resistance of biofilm and planktonic Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Article Abstract:

Results reveal that biofilms are more resistant to heavy mtals than planktonic Pseudomonas aeruginosa by 2 to 600 times. In the free-swimming bacteria, logarithmically growing cells are more resistant than stationary cells. Microscopic analysis indicates that an extracellular polymeric substance surrounding biofilms may protect them from metal stress by retarding the diffusion of metals within the biofilm.

Degradation of n-hexadecane and its metabolites by Pseudomonas aeruginosa under microaerobic and anaerobic denytrifying conditions

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that microaerobic conditions restrict hydrocarbon metabolism. Data further point out that a sequential degradation of hydrocarbons by the microorganisms helps to strategisize development of advanced bioremediation.
