Cloning, characterization, and molecular application of a beta-agarase gene from vibrio sp. strain V134
Article Abstract:
The isolation and identification of an agar-digesting bacterium from marine environments, the cloning and expression of the agarase gene in Escherichia coli is described. The secretion and enzymatic features of agarase is also explored and an efficient molecular tool for the trapping of secretion signal sequences also constructed.

Statistical analyses: Possible reasons for unreliability of source tracking efforts
Article Abstract:
Escherichia coli isolates were compared to Escherichia coli K12 (ATCC 29425) by restriction fragment length polymorphism using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. The results indicate a large genetic heterogeneity in E. coli populations making the grouping of isolates by source rather difficult, if not possible.

Water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) identified as an important reservoir of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli in Brazil
Article Abstract:
The existence of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) in water buffaloes from South America identified with more than 50% of serotype associated with human diseases is reported.
