Cloning and expression of a conjugated bile acid hydrolase gene from Lactobacillus plantarum by using a direct plate assay

Article Abstract:

The isolation and expression of a conjugated bile acid hydrolase gene from a Lactobacillus plantarum strain usinga direct plate assay is discussed. Lactobacillus strains were tested for bile acid hydrolase activity. Nucleotide sequence analysis characterized the conjugated bile acid hydrolase gene and surrounding regions. It was found that the gene was well conserved among the different Lactobacillus specimens tested.

Occurence of Propionibacterium freudenreichii bacteriophages in Swiss cheese

Article Abstract:

Isolation of bacteriophages which were active against Propionibacterium freudenreichii from 16 samples of cheese shows that these bacteriophages have no negative effect on the development of propionic flora and they multiply along with the increase propionibacteria in a warm curing room.

Efficient transformation system for Propionibacterium freudenreichii based on a novel vector

Article Abstract:

Researchers used a 3.6-kb plasmid from Propionibacterium freudenreichii to insert an E.coli-specific replicon and an erythromycin resistance gene into the bacterium. This bacterium is used for industrial purposes, so a means of genetically modifying the bacterium would be useful.
