Article Abstract:
The chromosomes of several species of Bovidae were analyzed and compared to the chromosome map of Bos taurus (cattle). Standardized numbering of homologous chromosomal arms was also attempted. The results showed that there was significant chromosome band homology between all species examined. Band differences indicating intrachromosomal arm rearrangements were found to be more common for sex chromosomes rather than autosomal chromosomes. Further studies to elucidate phyletic relationships are recommended.

Article Abstract:
The objectives of the study are to screen usable polymorphic markers for genetic study of the Korean goral from Bovidae, to evaluate current genetic diversity of the endangered Korean goral and to compare genetic diversity of the endangered Korean goral with that of other Caprinae species. Current results of cross-species amplification of domestic Bovidae microsatellites could be employed for the necessary population genetic studies on the Korean goral and other endangered Caprinae species.

Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to identify an autosome to X chromosome translocation observed in domestic cows. QFH-banding identified the translocated autosomal material as chromosome 23, bands 13-25. The centromeric region of the material was retained. Fluorescent hybridization confirmed the identity of the translocation. The X-autosome translocation identified will be useful in physical characterizations of the major histocompatibility complex observed in cattle.
