Characterization of the meta-cleavage compound hydrolase gene involved in degradation of the lignin-related biphenyl structure by Sphingomonas paucimobilis SYK-6

Article Abstract:

Sphingomonas paucimobilis SYK-6 degrades the structure of the lignin-related biphenyl compound 2,2'-dihydroxy-3,3'-dimethoxy-5,5'-dicarboxybiphenyl and transform it to 5-carboxyvanillic acid via 2,2',3-trihydroxy-3'-methoxy-5,5'-dicarboxybiphenyl (OH-DDVA). A novel hydrolase gene is responsible for this conversion and exhibits hydrolase activity only toward the meta-cleavage derivative of OH-DDVA, an indication that it has restricted substrate specificity.

Characterization of the terephthalate degradation genes of Comamonas sp. strain E6

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to develop the conversion of terephthalate (TPA) to 2-pyrone-4, 6-dicarboxylate (PDC) by isolating TPA degrader, Comamonas sp. strain E6. The results indicated that TPA 1, 2-dioxygenase (TPADO) was strongly suggested to be a two-component dioxygenase that consists of the terminal oxygenase component (TphA2 and TphA3) and the reductase (TphA1), and tphB codes for the DCD dehydrogenase.

Multiple-subunit genes of the aromatic-ring-hydroxylating dioxygenase play an active role in biphenyl and polychlorinated biphenyl degradation in Rhodococcus sp. strain RHA1

Article Abstract:

The involvement of aromatic-ring-hydroxylating dioxygenase genes in the biphenyl/polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) degradation activity of RHA1 is examined. The results showed that all of the genes are involved in biphenyl/PCD degradation activity in RHA1.
