Characterization of the genome of the Rhodococcus rhodochrous bacteriophage NJL

Article Abstract:

The genome of bacteriophage NJL was characterized to develop a phage cloning vector. This involved the utilization of the structural and physical map of the genome infecting Rhodococcus rhodochrous. A cosine method was developed for mapping NJL. A method for introducing DNA into protoplasts of R. rhodochrous in the presence of polyethylene glycol and into intact cells by electroporation was established.

Biodegradation of n-alkylcycloalkanes and n-alkylbenzenes via new pathways in Alcanivorax sp. strain MBIC 4326

Article Abstract:

Alcanivorax sp. strain MBIC 4326 biodegrades long-chain n-alkylated hydrocarbons by beta-oxidation, forming the intermediate compound cyclohexanecarboxylic acid. This in turn is converted to 1-cyclohexene-1-carboxylic acid and finally to benzoic acid.

Relationships between colony morphotypes and oil tolerance in Rhodococcus rhodochrous

Article Abstract:

A mucoidal form of Rhodococcus rhodochrous can grow on n-hexadecane and the extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) appears to confer this resistance to oil. When the EPS was transferred to a rough strain, it also became tolerant to oil.
