Article Abstract:
The gene cluster is characterized for the biosynthesis of the cyanobacterial toxin cylindrospermopsin (cyr) in Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii AWT205 and the complete biosynthetic pathway is described. The results have helped in the design of toxic strain-specific probes and also for the study of the regulation and biological role of cylindrospermopsin.

Article Abstract:
The microviridin J is identified as the source of a fatal molting disruption in Daphnia species organisms feeding on Microcystis cells. The molting disruption was linked to the inhibitory effect of microviridin J on daphnid proteases, suggesting that hundreds of further cyanobacterial protease inhibitors must be potentially toxic to zooplankton.

Article Abstract:
The gene cluster that produces the toxin microcystin from the cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa is stimulated by red light and high light intensity and inhibited by blue light. Two thresholds for triggering gene expression occur: one between dark and low light and another between medium and high light.
