Article Abstract:
The heterologous expression of luxAB genes shows a two-phase kinetic behavior of light emission which must be considered in quantitative measurements of the bioluminescence signal. Characterization of the response using strains of Escherichia coli and Caulobacter crescentus as hosts indicates that the bioluminescence intensity profiles have no dependence on the host. The two-phase luminescence signal intensity corresponds to the concentration of added decanal and other components of the assay mixture. The order of mixing and incubation times also affect the signal.

Article Abstract:
The detection of luciferase activity in stationary-phase cells of Lactococcus lactis is discussed. Findings reveal a significant improvement in the detection of luciferase in stationary-phase cells of Lactococcus lactis due to the addition of riboflavin or flavin mononucleotide to whole-cell assay systems.

Article Abstract:
Research concerning the influence of the sugar sources during the production of exopolysaccharides (EPS) by lactococci is conducted. Results indicate that glucose is more efficient for EPS production by Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris NIZO B40 than fructose.
