Characterization of ancestral and derived Y-chromosome haplotypes of New World Native populations
Article Abstract:
Characterization of derived and ancestral Y-chromosome haplotypes of indigenous New World populations using analysis of the allelic polymorphisms in seven Y-specific microsatellite loci and a Y-specific alphoid system with 27 variants in 89 Y chromosomes with the DYS199T allele of Amerindian and Na-Dene language users is discussed. 0A appears to be one of the prevalent founder paternal lineages of indigenous peoples of the New World based on analysis of the Y-specific microsatellite mutation rate in 1,743 father-son transmissions and pooled data.

The Himalayas as a directional barrier to gene flow
Article Abstract:
The genetic affinities of three populations from Nepal, Kathmandu and Tibet are investigated to evaluate whether the Himalayan mountain range represent a geographic barrier for gene flow between the Tibetan plateau and the South Asian subcontinent. The study results suggest that the Tibetans and Nepalese are in part descendants of Tibeto-Burman speaking groups originating from Northeast Asia.

Evidence of amino acid diversity-enhancing selection within humans and among primates at the candidate sperm-receptor gene PKDREJ
Article Abstract:
The PKDREJ sequence is determined from human and nonhuman primates in order to conduct statistical tests of inter- and intraspecific sequence variation. The results have shown that PKDREJ has demonstrated characteristics expected for a sperm receptor for the mammalian egg-coat zona pellucida (ZP) glycoproteins.
