Characterization of a tyrosine kinase-peptidase A synteny in linkage group XIII of Xiphophorus fishes (Teleostei: Poeciliidae): implications for vertebrate chromosome evolution

Article Abstract:

Spontaneous and induced tumor models have been developed to explain interspecies hybrids of Xiphophorus fishes. The models have been used to evaluate tyrosine kinase-related Xiphophorus sequences and their relation to tumorigenesis. The linkage of Xiphophorus src-related sequence and linkage group XIII described an ancestral vertebrate gene arrangement. Thus, the src gene may have evolved from chromosome duplications.

Strong Reproductive Skew Among Males in the Multiply Mated Swordtail Xiphophorus multilineatus (Teleostei)

Article Abstract:

Research on the Xiphophorus swordtail fish mating system indicates that a single male typically dominates, contributing over 70% to offspring, with other males not appearing to be especially effective. Postcopulatory processes including sperm competition are also discussed.

Maternal Effects on Encystment in Crosses Between Two Geographic Strains of Artemia franciscana

Article Abstract:

Research on two populations of the branchiopod Artemia franciscana shows maternal effects in proportion of encysted broods, and paternal and grandfather effects in number of encysted offspring averages per brood.
