Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to characterize the second Arg-specific proteinase of Porphyromonas gingivalis and the cloning and sequence analysis of its gene, prtRII. P. gingivalis W50 was prepared in batch culture and harvested at late-exponential phase by centrifugation. Polymerase chain reaction was utilized to amplify a 991 bp fragment supporting the internal Eco721 site encoded by prtRII. Results indicated that prtR resulted from the gene duplication and recombination of ancestral prtRII and adhesin genes.

Article Abstract:
A monoclonal antibody (3A10) was raised against the material released from the Candida albicans mycelial cell wall by zymolyase digestion. It appears that after secretion, parts of the O-glycosylated antigen molecules are transferred to an N-glycosylated protein or proteins. The process that results in the final molecular product of each antigen and distribution in the cell walls is discussed.

Article Abstract:
Interaction of Candida albicans yeast cells with the three main domains of type IV collagen, a major basement membrane glycoprotein, have been analyzed. The pathogen adhered to the three immobilized domains by different mechanisms. A lectin-like adhesin that recognizes the 7S(IV) domain has been identified.
