Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze changes in the bacterial populations in serial dilution enrichments from a wetland biofilm sample in Hale County, AL. Leaves were shaken to displace attached cells before the biofilm sample was serially diluted. An aerobic complex medium composed of tryptic soy broth was then utilized for enrichment. Results suggested that varying enrichment procedures with molecular techniques may lead to the identification of more bacteria that can be cultured.

Article Abstract:
Lithotrophic Fe(II)-oxidizing bacteria can recycle iron at aerobic-anaerobic interfaces. In cultures inoculated with these bacteria, most Fe(III) deposition occurs below the depth of oxygen penetration, whereas in abiotic cultures, it only occurs in the aerobic zone.

Article Abstract:
Bacteria can reduce much more iron when grown in continuous-flow column reactors compared to batch cultures. In continuous-flow column reactors, 95% of Fe(III) oxide was reduced, compared to 13% in batch cultures.
