Article Abstract:
Cell manipulation is usually a prerequisite of cell surface analysis which includes centrifugation at different speeds, exposure to hydrophobicity assays and desiccation. Bacterial interaction with the environment is achieved via microbial cell surfaces. Experiments involving microbes are usually affected by some degree of cell preparation techniques. Similarly, cell viability may be lost after manipulation by some protocols. The actual mechanism by which cell surface parameter data are obtained should be considered during cell surface analysis.

Article Abstract:
Listeria monocytogenes Scott A, a gram-positive human pathogen, has been characterized under varied environmental growth conditions. Cell surface charge, hydrophobicity and electron donor/acceptor characteristics have been studied with varying temperatures and growth media. Adhesion experiments showed that the cell surface charge and the electron donor/acceptor properties influence attachment to stainless steel.

Article Abstract:
Cholesterol removal by Lactobacillus casei ASCC 292 in the presence of frunctooligo-saccharide (FOS) and maltodextrin through the response surface approach is optimized. The results suggested that the combination of L. casei ASCC 292, FOS, and maltodextrin was the most efficient for the removal of cholesterol, and the optimum experimental region was developed by using the steepest ascent.
